What Is TMS Therapy?
TMS is a noninvasive procedure used to treat major depressive disorder. It’s often a helpful solution for patients who have tried other standard treatments, such as therapy and medication, and want to pursue alternative help.
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy uses recurring magnetic pulses that target areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. When delivered over a series of treatments, TMS may help support changes in neural activity associated with depression, such as boosting connectivity between the frontal cortex and deeper brain regions, and by increasing activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, and area of the brain implicated in the depressive systems such as inability to concentrate and enjoy activities. At Principium Psychiatry in Midtown Manhattan, Lower Manhattan, Greenwich, CT., and Santa Monica, CA., our clinicians evaluate each patient individually to determine whether TMS may be an appropriate treatment option as part of a personalized care plan.
Does Insurance Cover TMS?
